LANDOVER, Md. (7News) — From the first snap to the Championship, the Clarksburg Cayotes know all about winning. The girls' flag football team received their Championship rings courtesy of the Washington Commanders on Tuesday afternoon. The team celebrated back-to-back state titles for their high school. I really never been on a team that we've all clicked together so that everyone falls into place," Grace Gentili told 7News after receiving her Championship ring. Inside the Commanders' home locker room, the ladies admired the dazzling blue and silver team colors with a coyote in the middle. So it's like a proud moment," London Jackson, a rusher for the team, said. The Commanders have supported local girls' flag football. The team raised a seven-figure investment towards growing the sport in 2025. SEE ALSO | It's Official: Girls' Flag Football is a sanctioned sports for Maryland high schools "It's exciting. the future is exciting, I remember as a kid growing up and I was a Redskins fan, and we had tickets growing up from a young age, and I thought when I was little I was going to grow up and play football, and then it was like no, girls didn't really play football," Karen Taylor, an assistant coach for the Maryland girls team told 7News. "So for them now to have this opportunity to have this experience for some of them to want to take it even to the next level, this is an incredible opportunity," she added. As the sport continues to grow, at least 20 states have sanctioned girls' flag football as a varsity sport -- the official season for Maryland students will kick off in Fall 2026.
