Illinois Growth Report: Rockford Strengthens Girls Flag Football Pipeline

Rockford is helping expand girls flag football beyond the Chicago area and into northern Illinois. The Bears’ Monsters Flag Football clinic brought 175 girls ages 10–18 together for a 90-minute training session focused on fundamentals and player development. The clinic reinforced Rockford’s growing role in the Illinois flag football ecosystem. Rockford has been connected to the sport’s growth since the early expansion of girls flag football in Illinois. The area had representation in the inaugural state championships at Halas Hall, and Rockford University later participated in Illinois’ first collegiate women’s flag football game. This shows how a local market can support the sport at multiple levels: youth, middle school, high school, and college. For Illinois, Rockford is becoming an important growth market outside Chicago.
