Star flag football quarterback Makena Cook transfers to Sierra Canyon

Top flag football quarterback Makena Cook will spend her senior year at Sierra Canyon as the school launches its first girls flag football program, after a record‑setting high school career that included state titles, national rankings and a historic Division‑1 scholarship offer.
Makena Cook, one of the top high school flag football quarterbacks in the nation, will be transferring from Orange Lutheran to Sierra Canyon for her senior year. The move became official on Thursday.This fall will be the inaugural season of the girls' flag football program at Sierra Canyon, located in Chatsworth, California.
Cook has dominated during her time at Orange Lutheran, leading the Lancers to the inaugural California Southern Section Division 1 championship in 2024 and finishing as the runner-up in 2025. In her junior year, she threw for 7,083 yards and 112 touchdowns, surpassing her sophomore-year totals of 6,611 yards and 97 touchdowns. Both seasons included USA TODAY Sports Super 25 appearances, with the Lancers landing at No. 7 in the final 2025 rankings.
She made history and national headlines in January when she became the first woman to receive a Division 1 Power 4 flag football offer from the University of Nebraska, which will play its first season in 2028. Her college career, however, will be at the University of Georgia, where she is committed to playing soccer following her graduation.
Alongside her high school flag headlines, the 17 year-old is also currently a member for Team USA’s U17 team, which will start international competition in June.
