NFL team Tennessee Titans help grow girls flag football.
Girls’ flag football in Tennessee has experienced rapid growth and will reach a major milestone next week with the first-ever Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association girls’ flag football state championship in Murfreesboro. The championship games will take place May 14–15 at the Richard Siegel Soccer Complex.
The Tennessee Titans have played a major role in developing the sport statewide by providing grants, jerseys, and equipment to schools, helping expand access for female athletes. According to Titans Manager of Football Development and Cause Marketing Keith Bremer, nearly half of the girls participating in the first sanctioned seasons had never played another high school sport, showing how flag football is creating new athletic opportunities.
What began with just nine schools in Williamson County has now expanded to more than 160 teams throughout Tennessee. The sport’s growth has also been strengthened by the National Collegiate Athletic Association recognizing girls’ flag football as an emerging sport, creating future pathways for college competition and scholarships.
The Titans have also focused on leadership and education off the field by partnering with Bridgestone to host a girls’ flag football leadership summit. The program helps athletes learn about recruiting, leadership skills, and NCAA eligibility requirements.
From its launch in 2022 to the first official state championship in 2026, girls’ flag football has quickly become one of the fastest-growing sports in Tennessee, with strong support from schools, athletes, and the Titans organization.
